충남 서산시는 해양수산부가 주관하는 ‘2025년 청정어장 재생사업’에서 천수만이 사업대상지로 선정됐다고 5일 발표했다.
이번 공모사업은 장기간 양식으로 인해 발생한 오염퇴적물로 생산성이 저하된 만 단위 해역을 대상으로 하며, 환경정화를 통해 수산물의 지속 가능한 생산 기반을 구축하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
서산시는 이번 선정으로 외부재원 18억 원을 확보하여 총사업비 30억 원을 투입, 2023년부터 2026년까지 2년간 천수만 권역의 해양환경 개선을 위한 어장 복원 사업을 추진할 계획이다.
주요 사업 내용으로는 퇴적오염물 제거, 양식장 이동, 환경 모니터링 등이 포함된다.
천수만 해역은 오랜 기간 축적된 오염퇴적물과 해저환경 악화로 인해 어업 생산성이 급감하고 있으며, 최근 기후변화로 바지락 폐사율이 높아져 관내 어업인들이 큰 어려움을 겪고 있다.
이러한 상황에서 시는 어장 관리를 위한 환경 데이터 축적과 어장 건강성을 회복하는 이번 사업이 어업 생산성 증대를 위한 마중물이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
