이를 통해 한국의 원자력 발전이 녹색 에너지원으로서 전 세계적으로 인정받은 중요한 이정표가 됐다.
특히 이번 원자력 그린본드는 전 세계에서 가장 공신력 있는 신용평가사인 무디스(Moody’s)로부터 그린본드 관리체계에 대해 최고 등급의 인증을 받으며 발행되었으며, 이는 향후 녹색금융의 새로운 기준이 될 전망이다.
한수원의 원자력 그린본드는 약 12억 홍콩달러(약 2,150억 원) 규모로 발행되었으며, 홍콩과 싱가포르에 소재한 글로벌 대형 투자기관들이 참여했다. 채권의 만기는 3년으로 설정되었으며, 조달된 자금은 원전의 안전성 향상과 차세대 원전 관련 연구 개발에 전액 사용될 예정이다.
기존의 그린본드는 재생에너지 분야에만 자금 사용처가 한정된 반면, 이번 원자력 그린본드는 원자력 분야의 자금 조달을 가능하게 했다.

황주호 한수원 사장은 “이번 원자력 그린본드 발행을 통해 원전의 친환경성을 전 세계에서 공식적으로 인정받았으며, 한수원이 뛰어난 원전 건설과 운영 능력에 더해 금융 분야에서도 세계 시장을 선도하고 있음을 재확인했다”고 밝혔다. 그는 또한 “앞으로도 원전의 안전성을 강화하고, 소형모듈원자로(SMR) 등 차세대 원전 기술 개발에 지속적으로 투자해 탄소중립에 기여할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (President Hwang Joo-ho, hereinafter referred to as KHNP) announced on the 5th that it succeeded in issuing ‘nuclear green bonds’ for the first time in Asia.
