브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 기아는 ‘EV3’가 ‘2025 영국 올해의 차(UK Car of the Year)’에 최종 선정됐다고 7일 밝혔다.
영국 올해의 차는 매해 영국에서 활동하는 자동차, 비즈니스, 테크 등 산업 전문 기자를 중심으로 한 심사위원단 31명이 12개월 이내 출시된 차량들을 대상으로 심사와 투표를 진행해 선정된다.
기아 EV3는 지난 2월 1차 심사를 통해 2025 영국 올해의 차 소형 크로스오버 부문 최고의 차로 선정됐다.
이어 EV3는 각 부문별 최고의 자동차에 오른 △현대차 싼타페(대형 크로스오버 부문) △현대차 아이오닉 5 N(고성능차 부문) △스즈키 스위프트(소형차 부문) △스코다 수퍼브(패밀리카 부문) △미니 컨트리맨(중형 크로스오버 부문) △폴스타 폴스타4(비즈니스 부문) 등 경쟁 모델보다 높은 평가를 받으며 최고상에 선정됐다.
영국자동차산업협회(SMMT)에 따르면 영국은 지난해 전기차(BEV) 신규 등록건수가 2023년 대비 21.4% 증가한 38만1970 대를 기록하며, 전체 산업수요 195만2778 대의 19.6%를 차지할 정도로 전기차에 대한 관심이 높다.
기아는 이번 수상으로 전기차 격전지로 떠오르고 있는 영국에서 지난해 선정된 EV9에 이어, 올해 EV3까지 전용 전기차가 2년 연속 영국 올해의 차에 선정되는 쾌거를 달성했다.

한편, EV3는 한국자동차기자협회(KAJA)가 주관하는 ‘2025 대한민국 올해의 차’에 선정됐으며, 올해의 전기차 및 올해의 이노베이션에도 함께 선정되며 총 8개 부문 중 3개 부문을 동시에 수상했다.
또한, △독일 2024 골든 스티어링 휠 어워드 4만 유로 미만 최고의 차 △2025 핀란드 올해의 차 △2025 세계 여성 올해의 차 컴팩트 SUV 부문을 수상하고, △2025 유럽 올해의 차 최종 후보에 선정되는 등 글로벌 각국에서 우수성을 인정받고 있다.
기아 EV3는 지난해 5월 처음 공개된 이후 우수한 상품성을 바탕으로 올해 2월까지 국내 시장에서 1만5537대가 판매됐고, 국내를 포함한 글로벌 시장에서는 올해 1월 기준 총 5만4130대가 판매되며 EV 대중화에 앞장서고 있다.
