필자는 동해바다에서 살았음직한 바다 거북의 박제(剝製)를 소장하고 있다. 키 길이가 제법 긴, 1m 정도에 달한다.
이 바다 거북은 살아있을 때, 넓디넓은 바다 속에 살면서, 느릿느릿한 행동거지로, 자유로이 유영을 하면서, 가난이 무언지? 고민 없이, 살았을 터이다.

필자는 가끔씩 이 바다거북 박제를 바라보면서 묵상하곤 한다. 느리지만, 나만의 세계를 구축, 유영(留營=변하지 아니하고 경작하다)해야 한다는 것을 다짐한다.
거북의 걸음걸이는 느릿하다. 그래서 느림의 미학(美學)으로 포장되기도 한다. 토끼와 거북의 경주(競走)에서 종국엔 거북이 이긴다. 느릿느릿 제 길을 가는 거북처럼, 삶을 살아가는 방법에도 느림보 처세(處世)가 있다.
바다에서 사는 거북이의 수명은 사람 수명과 엇비슷한 것으로 알려져 있다.
사람들이 왜 거북이 박제를 실내에 보관하는지, 그 이유를, 인공지능 사이트인 ‘뤼튼’에 물었다. 아래는 그 답이다.
