종교자유세계인권연대는 3월24일 보도자료에서 “종교 인권 수호를 위해 설립한 종교자유세계인권연대가 지난 3월22일 서울창업허브 공덕에서 제1회 정기총회 및 인권포럼을 열고 올해 사업 방향을 공유했다.”고 밝혔다.

개회사에 나선 종교자유세계인권연대 대표는 “인류가 생긴 이래 종교는 항상 있어 왔다. 그러나 종교로 인해 큰 갈등도 생기고 전쟁도 불사하게 됐다. 이를 막기 위해 종교의 자유는 각국 법에 명시돼 있다”며 “국가 차원이든, 개인 차원이든 결국 모든 인류에게 종교가 절대적 자유의 영역임은 자명하다”고 말했다. 이어 “그러나 지금 세계 종교의 현실은 그렇지 못하다. 핍박, 박해, 분쟁이 끊이지 않고 정답 없는 각종 비방과 분열 조장 행위로 종교 자유가 침해되고 있다”고 꼬집었다. 또한 “우리는 지난 1년간 세계 종교의 자유를 지키기 위해 분석하고 알리며 큰 노력을 해왔다”면서 “오늘 정기총회를 통해 종교자유세계인권연대가 더욱 발전할 한 걸음을 또 내딛는다. 종교자유를 수호할 수 있도록 아낌없는 성원과 협조를 부탁드린다”고 당부했다.
종교자유세계인권연대 고문은 축사를 통해 “지금 대한민국은 종교적 탄압과 정치적 갈등이 심각하다. 이런 상황에서 종교 자유와 인권 신장에 목소리를 높이기 위해 창립한 것”이라며 “중요한 자리에 영향력 있는 목소리를 낼 수 있는 단체로 성장하길 바란다”고 말했다.
종교자유세계인권연대 감사도 축사를 통해 ”종교자유세계인권연대는 종교의 인권의 불모지인 대한민국에서 종교 인권 신장을 위해 전력을 다하는 유일무이한 단체“라며 ”쉽지 않은 길이지만, 지난달 개최한 사진전에서 가능성을 보았듯 종교자유세계인권연대가 내는 목소리를 듣고 뜻을 함께하는 사람들이 하나둘 모여들 것이다. 그리고 그 동참이 우리의 힘이 돼 줄 것“이라고 전했다.
