도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 14일(현지시간) 일시적 관세 면제 관련해 "자동차 업체 일부를 돕기 위한 무엇인 가를 검토 중"이라며 자동차 부품 관세 추가 면제를 시사했다.
AP통신 보도에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 미 워싱턴 백악관 집무실에서 나이브 부켈레 엘살바도르 대통령과 가진 정상회담에서 '일시적 관세 면제를 검토하는 특정 물품이 있느냐'는 질의에 대해 이같이 답했다.
트럼프 대통령은 지난 3일부터 자동차에 대해 25% 관세를 부과 중인 가운데 엔진·변속기·파워트레인 등 핵심 자동차 부품에 관련 관세 경우 오는 5월 3일 이전에 발효되는 걸로 돼 있다.
그러면서 자동차 회사에 대해선 "캐나다·멕시코에서 생산되던 부품을 이곳에서 만들기 위해 (생산을) 전환하고 있으나 그들은 시간이 조금 필요하다"고 밝혔다.
또 '애플 제품·스마트폰 등이 관세 예외 대상이 될 수 있느냐'는 질의엔 "내 마음을 바꾸지는 않았으나 나는 매우 유연한 사람"이라며 "여러분도 그래야 하고 때로 벽을 돌아가거나 밑으로 가거나 위로 가야 한다"고 했다.
