한덕수 대통령 권한대행 국무총리가 21일 "정부는 국익 최우선 원칙 하에 미국과 차분하고 진지하게 협의해 양국이 상호 윈·윈할 수 있는 방안을 찾는 데 총력을 기울이겠다"고 밝혔다.
한 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 '경제안보전략TF회의'를 주재하며 모두 발언에서 "미국 측 요청으로 이번주 양국 경제·통상장관이 만나 협의에 착수케 됐다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "지난주 일본에 이어 이번주 우리나라와 협의를 시작하게 된 건 미국도 우리와의 관계를 중시하고 있음을 보여준 것"이라며 "한·미 간 첫 회의가 의미 있는 협력 출발점이 될 것이라 기대한다"고 밝혔다.
또 "트럼프 대통령과의 통화에서 언급된 무역 균형·조선·액화천연가스(LNG) 3대 분야 중심으로 한·미 상호 간 관심 사항을 구체적으로 확인하고 양국 간 상호호혜적 합의점을 모색해 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.
최상목 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관·안덕근 산업부 장관을 공동 수석대표로 하는 정부 합동 대표단은 오는 24일 미 워싱턴DC에서 베센트 재무장관·제이미슨 그리어 무역대표부(USTR) 대표와 2+2 협의를 개최 후 양국 통상 장관 간 개별 협의도 진행한다.
