경기북부보훈지청(지청장 손순욱)이 현충시설과 보훈 정신을 국민에게 알리기 위한 '4인 5각 함께 걸어 보훈' 프로젝트를 2월부터 12월까지 1년간 진행한다.

이 프로젝트는 경기북부보훈지청 직원 네 명이 한 조를 이루어 매달 11개 관할 시군 중 한 곳의 현충시설을 방문하고, 국가보훈부 사업 홍보 및 직원 소통 활동을 펼치는 방식으로 운영된다.
지난 3월 고양독립운동기념탑에 이어, 4월에는 파주시 임진각에 위치한 '윌리엄 E. 웨버 대령, 존 K. 싱글러브 장군 추모비'와 '6·25전쟁영웅 히어로드 조형물'을 방문했다.

'윌리엄 E. 웨버 대령, 존 K. 싱글러브 장군 추모비'는 한미동맹 70주년을 맞아 한미동맹재단이 한국전쟁 참전용사이자 대한민국 안보와 번영을 위해 헌신한 두 인물을 기리기 위해 SK 등의 후원으로 건립했다.
4월 17일 경기북부보훈지청 직원들은 추모비에서 '도전! 현충시설 골든벨' 프로그램을 진행했다.

이는 직원들이 추모비에 관한 정보를 단시간에 학습하고 문제를 풀어보는 활동으로, 유튜브 채널에도 게재하여 일반 국민들과 함께 공유했다.
특히 한국전쟁에서 오른팔과 오른다리를 잃어 왼손으로 경례하는 모습으로 알려진 윌리엄 E. 웨버 대령의 "나의 부상은 자유를 위한 희생의 상징이어서 자랑스럽다"는 정신을 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.
이어서 파주 임진각의 '6·25전쟁영웅 히어로드 조형물'(故 김기태 경감 포토존)을 방문해 시민들에게 조형물과 故 김기태 경감을 알리는 활동도 진행했다.

이 조형물은 국가보훈부가 전쟁영웅의 공훈과 뜻을 널리 알리기 위해 건립했다.
프로젝트에 참여한 보훈과 김미정 팀장은 "평화의 소중함을 다시 느끼게 되었고, 참전자들의 희생을 잊지 않고 그 의미를 이어받아 평화로운 세상을 만드는 데 힘써야겠다"고 소감을 전했다.
경기북부보훈지청은 다음 5월에 독립 관련 현충시설인 가평군 삼충단비를 방문할 예정이다.
