브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김상욱 국민의힘 의원은 8일 국민의힘을 탈당을 선언했다.
김 의원은 이날 입장문을 내고 "국민의힘이 정통 보수정당으로 국가와 국민을 위한 기능을 수행하기를 간절히 바라왔고, 그 충정으로 외롭고 힘들지만 충언을 계속했다"면서 탈당 의사를 내비쳤다.
그는 "그러나 이제 가능성이 사라진 극단적 상황에 놓인 국민의힘을 아픈 마음으로 받아들일 수밖에 없다"며 "대통령 선거의 중요한 시기. 국민의힘을 떠나며, 보수지지자들에게 호소드린다. 2025년 오늘의 보수 가치인 민주주의와 법치주의, 그리고 공정·합리·개방·포용·자유를 기준삼아 정치판단을 내려달라"고 했다.
이어 "새로움을 받아들이고 다름에서 배움을 얻으려는 포용과 품위있게 원칙을 지키는 보수가 되어달라"고 촉구했다.
김 의원은 "(저는) 국민의힘 탈당으로 무소속 의원이 된다. 그리고 지금은 대선 국면"이라며 "'제가 누구를 어떤 방식으로 지지하며 함께 할 것인가'의 문제를 책임감 있게 고민하겠다"고 했다.
그는 또한 향후 거취에 대해 "저를 지지하고 믿고 계신 많은 지지자분들의 고마운 마음을 생각하여 더 면밀하고 신중하게 오직 국민께 이익되는 것이 무엇인지를 기준으로 심도깊은 생각을 더하고 방향이 정해지면 의견을 솔직히 말씀드리겠다"고 말했다.
김 의원은 특히 "기회가 된다면 이재명, 이준석 후보 등 대선 후보님들과 만나 현안 해결과 나라의 방향성에 대한 고민을 함께 나누고 싶다"며 "오늘은 탈당을 결정하였고, 이후 더 많은 고견을 듣고 더 깊이 생각하여 오직 국민께 도움되는 결정이 무엇인지를 기준으로 정당 입당 또는 그 밖의 정치 행보에 대한 의사를 결정하려 한다"고 강조했다.
그러면서 "오늘 탈당하며 느끼는 이 마음을 잘 씨앗삼아 더 국민들을 바로 받드는 계기로 삼겠다"고 덧붙였다.
