브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 윤석열 전 대통령이 17일 국민의힘 탈당을 선언했다.
윤 전 대통령은 이날 오전 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "저는 오늘 국민의힘을 떠난다"면서 "길지 않은 정치 인생을 함께하고 저를 대한민국 대통령으로 만들어 준 국민의힘을 떠나는 것은 대선 승리와 자유민주주의를 지키기 위해 지금 제가 할 수 있는 최선의 길"이라고 밝혔다.
윤 전 대통령은 제20대 대통령 선거 국민의힘 경선 참여를 위해 지난 2021년 7월30일 입당한 지 약 3년 10개월 만에 탈당을 선택했다.
윤 전 대통령은 "대한민국은 자유민주주의 체제가 존속될 것이냐, 붕괴되느냐 하는 절체절명의 갈림길에 서 있다"며 "제가 대선 승리를 김문수 후보 못지않게 열망하는 것도 이번 대선에 대한민국의 운명이 걸려있기 때문이다"라고 설명했다.
이어 "자유민주주의 없이는 지속 가능한 경제 발전도, 국민 행복도, 안보도 없다"라며 "저는 비록 당을 떠나지만 자유와 주권 수호를 위해 백의종군할 것이다. 동지 여러분께서는 자유 대한민국과 국민의힘을 더욱 뜨겁게 끌어안아 주시기 바란다. 각자의 입장을 넘어 더 큰 하나가 되어 주시기 바란다"고 당부했다.
그는 또한 "국민의힘을 떠나는 것은 자유대한민국을 지키기 위한 책임을 다하기 위해서다"라며 "이번 선거는 전체주의 독재를 막고 자유민주주의와 법치주의를 지키기 위한 마지막 기회다. 지난 겨울 자유와 주권 수호를 위해 뜨거운 열정을 함께 나누고 확인한 국민 여러분, 청년 여러분, 국민의힘 김문수에게 힘을 모아달라"고 강조했다.
그러면서 "반드시 투표에 참여해 달라. 여러분의 한 표 한 표는 이 나라의 자유와 주권을 지키고 번영을 이루는 길이다. 저는 여러분과 늘 함께 하겠다"고 덧붙였다.

The reason I desire a victory in the presidential election as much as candidate Kim Moon-soo himself is because the fate of the Republic of Korea is at stake in this presidential election.

Leaving the People’s Power Party, which has been with me throughout my short political career and made me the President of the Republic of Korea, is the best thing I can do now to secure victory in the presidential election and protect liberal democracy.
