충남 서산시가 국제 크루즈 관광 중심지로 본격적인 도약에 나섰다.
서산시의 이 같은 계획은 서산 대산항을 출발한 국제 크루즈선 ‘코스타세레나호’가 6박 7일간의 일정을 성공적으로 마치고 지난 25일 부산항에 입항하며, 서산시의 글로벌 관광 비전 실현에 탄력이 붙고 있다.
이번 크루즈 여정은 지난 19일 대산항에서 출발해 대만 기륭과 일본 나가사키를 경유한 후 부산항에 도착하는 일정으로 진행됐다. 특히, 서산시민 460여 명이 탑승해 서산에서 시작하는 국제 크루즈 관광의 가능성을 직접 체험했다.
크루즈 내부에서는 가수왕 선발대회, 고고파티, 스타 콘서트 등 다채로운 공연과 함께 수영장, 레스토랑, 카지노 등 다양한 시설이 마련돼 관광객들에게 풍성한 즐길 거리를 제공했다.
특히, 서산 특산물인 김치 500㎏이 선상에서 제공되며 외국인 관광객들에게 한국 전통의 맛을 알리는 데 일조했다는 평가다.

대만에서는 ‘크루즈 오버나잇’ 프로그램을 통해 타이베이 101전망대, 국립고궁박물관 등을 방문하며 지역 문화를 체험했고, 일본 나가사키에서는 평화공원과 시마바라 성, 운젠 지옥계곡 등을 둘러보며 역사와 자연이 어우러진 여정을 즐겼다.
서산시는 이번 크루즈 운항 성과를 발판으로 국제 크루즈 산업을 전략적으로 육성할 계획이다. 특히 지난해에 이어 올해도 국제 크루즈 운항을 성사시키며 충청권에서 유일한 성공 사례로 부상하고 있다.
이완섭 서산시장은 “국제 크루즈의 성공적인 운영은 서산시가 세계적인 관광도시로 도약할 수 있는 가능성을 보여준 사례”라며 “앞으로 다양한 크루즈 노선을 개발하고 관광 인프라를 지속적으로 확충해 글로벌 관광객 유치에 총력을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
