[브레이크뉴스=박찬호 기자] 한국남동발전은 지난달 28일 경남 진주 본사에서 한국에너지기술연구원 등 7개 주요 국책연구기관과 미래 성장동력 및 탄소중립 신기술 확보를 위한 ‘R&D 전략기획 컨퍼런스’를 개최했다고 2일 밝혔다.
이번 컨퍼런스는 강기윤 한국남동발전 사장 취임 이후 줄곧 강조하고 있는 “지속 가능한 성장을 위한 핵심 요소로써 연구개발 기능 강화를 통한 기술경쟁력 확보가 필요하다”는 경영 방향의 일환으로 시행됐다.
강 사장은 신재생에너지 및 차세대 발전기술 개발 가속화를 통한 기업 자생력과 경쟁력 제고를 위해 연구개발 기능을 강화할 필요가 있다고 보고, 지난 3월 조직개편을 통해 연구개발 전담 조직인 KOEN 연구소를 발족해 운영해 왔다.

한국남동발전의 에너지 전환 방향을 반영한 ‘삼천포발전본부 유휴부지 활용 암모니아 기반 청정수소 생산기술 개발’ 과제는 회사의 정책방향 의사결정에 필요한 기술로써 석탄화력 폐지설비 활용방안에 대한 기대감으로 활발한 토론이 펼쳐졌다.
또한 ‘공중풍력시스템 원격관제기술 개발’ 과제는 전통 놀이문화인 연날리기에 착안하여 바람에 의해 연이 공중에 부유하고, 이때 발생한 연줄의 장력을 전기로 변환하는 참신하고 독창적인 기술로서 현장 실증과 관련한 질의가 이어졌다.
