[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 의령군이 경남도에서 주관하는 2025년 지역특화품목 육성단지 조성사업 공모에 지난해 이어 2년 연속 최종 선정됐다.
지역특화품목 육성단지 조성사업은 농업인 주도로 지역 여건에 맞는 특화품목 육성단지 조성을 통해 경쟁력 있는 특화작목 전환 확산 및 규모화로 농가소득을 증대하기 위해 추진하는 사업이다.
군은 지역 농업 균형발전 측면에서 기존 서북부권 중심의 농업 발전 한 축 이외 동부권 지역의 농업 발전의 한 축을 마련하기 위해 이번 사업을 준비했다.
의령군은 초당옥수수를 선정 품목으로 낙동강 유역 일원에 육성단지를 조성하는 것을 골자로 내재해형 비닐하우스와 농업용수 개발에 14억1,000만원의 사업비를 투입한다.
지난해에는 내재해형 비닐하우스와 유통시설 개보수 24억4,000만 원 규모와 합쳐 총 38억 규모로 이 일대에 사업이 추진된다.
군 이번 공모사업으로 낙서면을 중심으로 부림면, 지정면 등 3개면 45곳 농가에 초당옥수수 생산기반 시설인 비닐하우스 160동을 짓고 집하장 시설개보수와 지하수 개발에 나선다.
의령군 지역특화품목으로 육성되는 초당옥수수는 삶지 않고 생으로 간편하게 먹을 수 있고 17브릭스 이상의 고당도를 가지고 있어 간식용으로 제격이다. 시설 하우스에서 재배된 초당옥수수는 의령군이 5~6월 전국 물량의 80%를 점유하고 있다.
