도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 15일(현지시간) 이스라엘·이란 간 충돌 격화에 따른 중동 위기 고조 상황에 "때론 국가들이 먼저 싸워 해결해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
연합뉴스에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 캐나다 G7(주요7개국) 정상회의 참석 차 출국 전 백악관에서 취재진과 만나 "(이스라엘·이란 간 휴전) 합의가 이뤄지길 바라고, 협상할 때가 왔다 생각한다"면서도 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "무슨 일이 일어날지 지켜보겠고, 협상이 이뤄질 좋은 때라 생각한다"며 '이스라엘에 이란에 대한 공습 중단을 요구했나'란 질의에 "그것에 대해선 말하고 싶지 않다"고 답하지 않았다.
또 "이란의 보복 공습 등으로부터 중동 지역 맹방 이스라엘의방어를 계속 지원하겠다"고 밝혔다.
이어 'G7 정상회의에서 매우 좋은 무역 합의들이 발표될 수 있느냐'는 질의 관련해선 "보라. 우리의 매우 좋은 합의를 갖고 있고, 우리가 해야 할 일은 서한을 보내는 것이며 이는 당신이 지불해야 하는 것"이라며 "하지만 우리는 몇몇 새로운 무역 합의를 이룰 수 있다 생각한다"고 덧붙였다.
