이스라엘·이란 간 무력 충돌로 인한 전쟁 격화 분위기 속 이란 공격 계획을 전날 승인한 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 18일(현지시간) 아직 최종 결정은 하지 않았다고 밝혔다.
미 경제일간지 '월스트리트저널(WSJ)'은 이날 트럼프 대통령이 이스라엘의 대 이란 공격에 미국의 가세 여부를 숙고 중인 가운데 이란의 핵무기 개발 포기 여부를 보기 위해 최종 공격 명령 보류 입장을 고위 참모들에게 밝혔다고 보도했다.
또 "트럼프 대통령은 미국이 이스라엘과 함께 이란을 공격할 수 있다는 위협을 통해 이란이 트럼프 대통령 요구를 수용하도록 강제하길 바란다고 소식통들이 전했다"고 보도했다..

앞서 전날 트럼프 대통령은 자신의 트루스소셜 글을 통해 이란에 "무조건 항복하라!"고 촉구한 가운데 아야톨라 세예드 알리 하메네이 이란 최고지도자는 18일 "이란 국민은 항복하지 않을 것임을 알아야 한다"며 "미국은 미국 군사적 개입이 의심할 여지 없이 돌이킬 수 없는 피해를 초래할 것이란 점을 명심해야 한다"며 거부했다.
