도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 21일(현지시간) 미국의 이란 핵 시설 직접 타격 후 대국민 연설을 통해 "이란 주요 핵농축 시설은 완전히 전적 제거됐다"고 밝혔다.
미 'CBS 방송'에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 미군의 이란 핵 시설 공격 후 워싱톤 백악관에서 행한 대국민 연설에서 "(이날 군사작전이 )극적 성공"이라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "이란 핵농축 역량을 파괴하고, 세계 최대 테러 후원 국가가 제기하는 핵 위협을 저지하는 것이었다"며 "우리는 이런 역할에 그들(미군 장병) 서비스가 더 이상 필요 않을 것이며 그렇게 되길 바란다"고 말했다.
또 "(이란은) 평화를 구축해야 한다"며 "그렇게 하지 않으면 향후 공격은 훨씬 강력하고 쉬울 것"이라고 사실상 이란을 겨냥했다. 향후 이란의 보복이 있을 시 더 참혹한 후과를 경고한 것으로 보인다.
이어 "표적이 더 많이 남았다는 걸 기억하라"며 "만약 평화가 빨리 도래하지 않으면 우리는 그런 다른 표적들을 정밀, 신속, 숙련되게 공격할 것이며 대부분 불과 몇분 안에 제거할 수 있다"고 거듭 이란에 경고했다.
더불어 이란이 지난 40년간 '미국에 죽음을, 이스라엘에 죽음을'을 외쳐온 것과 미국인 1천명 이상과 전 세계에서 수천 명이 사망했다는 점을 부각 후 이번 공격이 '정당한 무력행사'라며 당위성을 강조했다.
트럼프 대통령은 자신의 지난 집권 제1기 당시 '미국이 표적 공습으로 제거한 가셈 솔레이마니 이란혁명수비대(IRGC) 쿠드스군 사령관에 의해 수많은 사람이 살해됐다'고도 지적했다.

US President Donald Trump announced in a national address on the 21st (local time) after the US directly attacked Iran's nuclear facilities that "Iran's major nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely destroyed."
According to the US broadcast 'CBS', President Trump said this in a speech to the nation at the White House in Washington after the US military's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, saying, "(The military operation that day) was a dramatic success."

He also emphasized the legitimacy of this attack, saying, “This is a legitimate use of force,” after highlighting that Iran has been chanting, “Death to America, Death to Israel” for the past 40 years and that more than 1,000 Americans and thousands around the world have died.
President Trump also pointed out that, during his first term in office, “many people were killed by Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who was eliminated by the US in a targeted airstrike.”
CBS reported that, “The US conveyed to Iran in diplomatic contacts that day that the US plan was to attack nuclear facilities and that regime change in Iran was not in the plan.”
