[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시는 오는 7월 1일부터 청년의 상한 연령 기준을 기존 15세 이상 39세 이하에서 19세 이상 45세로 상향 조정한다고 24일 밝혔다.
지난 2월 26일 김해시 청년 기본 조례 개정에 따른 것으로 시행은 7월 1일부터 시행하며, 변화하는 사회적 흐름과 청년세대의 현실을 반영한 조치로 이번 조례 개정으로 김해시 청년 인구는 15만 명에서 18만 명으로 확대될 전망이다.
최근 수년간 청년층의 학업기간 연장과 취업 지연, 결혼과 출산 시기의 후퇴 등으로 인해 청년기가 자연스럽게 늦어지고 있는 가운데 단순한 연령 기준보다 실질적 사회 진입 시기를 반영하는 기준 마련의 필요성이 컸다. 이에 김해시는 45세까지를 청년으로 인정함으로써 정책 사각지대에 놓였던 40대 초반 시민들에게도 다양한 지원과 참여의 기회를 제공할 수 있게 됐다.
특히 가족을 부양하고 생계의 중심이 되는 40대 초반 시민들도 이제 청년 정책의 보호막 안으로 들어오게 됨으로써 청년층의 경제적 안정과 자립 기반 마련에 실질적인 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.
또 김해시는 청년 기준 확대가 실효성 있는 정책으로 이어질 수 있도록 청년들의 참여 기회를 넓혀갈 방침으로 다양한 연령대 청년의 목소리를 반영해 현장 중심의 정책을 함께 만들어갈 계획이다.
