브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 권동욱 국민의힘 대변인은 25일 6·25전쟁 75주년을 맞아 "숭고한 희생으로 조국을 지켜주신 모든 분께 고개 숙여 경의를 표한다"고 밝혔다.
권 대변인은 이날 논평을 통해 "1950년 6월 25일부터 3년 넘게 지속된 전쟁으로 수많은 국군과 유엔군, 민간인이 희생됐고, 조국은 남과 북으로 갈라져 한반도는 폐허가 됐다"며 이같이 말했다.
그는 "북한군의 기습 남침으로 참혹한 동족상잔이 벌어진 날로부터 75년이 흘렀다"며 "지금 남과 북은 전혀 다른 세상이 됐고, 인공위성이 촬영한 야간 한반도 사진은 그 차이를 극명하게 보여준다. 남쪽은 불빛이 가득하지만 북쪽은 암흑천지"라고 지적했다.
이어 그는 "오늘의 자유와 번영, 민주주의는 이를 수호하기 위해 목숨을 바친 호국영령과 참전유공자, 그리고 전 세계에서 함께한 유엔군 용사들의 희생 덕분"이라며 "이 모든 분께 깊은 경의와 애도의 뜻을 표한다"고 강조했다.
권 대변인은 "남북 간 국력 차이가 현격함에도 한반도의 긴장은 여전히 지속되고 있으며, 북한의 끊임없는 도발과 핵 개발은 현존하는 위협"이라며 "최근 북한은 군인의 목숨값으로 군사기술을 고도화하고 있다"고 비판했다.
또한 국제 정세와 관련해선 "우크라이나와 중동에서 벌어지고 있는 전쟁은 평화의 구축과 유지가 얼마나 어려운지를 보여주고 있다"라며 "강력한 국방력과 튼튼한 안보동맹으로 북핵과 도발에 대한 억제력을 갖춰야 하며, 실제적인 평화를 구축하기 위해 모든 영역에서 각고의 노력이 필요하다"고 말했다.
그러면서 "국민의힘은 말뿐인 평화가 아니라 실질적인 평화를 이루기 위해 온 힘을 다하겠다. 나라를 위해 희생한 분들을 기억하고 예우하는 것은 국가와 국민 모두의 당연한 책무이다. 국민의힘은 호국영령과 참전유공자, 유가족의 예우에 조금의 소홀함이 없도록 살피고 또 살피겠다"고 덧붙였다.
