세종시가 한글문화도시 조성을 위한 첫 발걸음으로 ‘전국 어린이 한글대왕 선발대회’ 참가자를 다음 달 6일까지 모집한다.
올해로 3회째를 맞는 이번 대회는 세종시가 주최하고 세종시문화관광재단이 주관하며, 문화체육관광부와 한글학회 등의 후원으로 진행된다. 전국 초등학생을 대상으로 우리말에 대한 이해와 표현 능력을 겨루는 경연 형식으로 열린다.
대회는 오는 7월 19일 예선을 시작으로, 8월 23일 본선을 통해 최종 수상자를 가린다. 예선은 한글 맞춤법, 어문 규정, 순우리말 어휘 등 초등학교 교육과정에 기반한 문제들로 구성되며, 본선에는 예선을 통과한 48명과 전년도 우수 입상자 2명 등 총 50명이 진출한다.
특히 본선은 TV 특집 프로그램으로도 제작될 예정으로, 참가 학생들의 실력뿐만 아니라 우리말에 대한 열정도 전국적으로 알려질 전망이다.
대상 수상자에게는 문화체육관광부장관상과 함께 상금 150만 원이 주어지며, 이외에도 총 10개의 상과 상금 610만 원이 준비돼 있어 참가자들의 경쟁이 치열할 것으로 보인다.
세종시 관계자는 “이번 대회는 우리말의 소중함을 어린이들이 자연스럽게 배우고 익히는 뜻깊은 자리”라며 “많은 초등학생들의 참여를 기대한다”고 말했다.
