이번 사업은 총 7억 8,200만 원 규모의 예산을 확보해 추진되며, 205동의 슬레이트 건축물을 대상으로 철거 및 지붕 개량을 지원한다. 구체적으로는 주택 슬레이트 철거 177동, 비주택 철거 19동, 주택 지붕개량 9동이 포함된다. 다만, 지붕개량은 조기 예산 소진으로 추가 신청이 불가한 상황이다.
신청 대상은 울진군 내 슬레이트 건축물(주택, 창고, 축사, 노인 및 어린이 시설 등)의 소유자로, 선정 시 ▲주택 1동당 최대 700만 원, ▲비주택의 경우 철거 면적이 200㎡ 이하일 경우 최대 540만 원까지 지원받을 수 있다.
신청은 해당 건축물이 위치한 읍·면사무소에서 접수 가능하며, 울진군청 환경위생과(☎054-789-6134)를 통해 자세한 안내를 받을 수 있다.
손병복 울진군수는 “슬레이트에 포함된 석면은 폐 질환과 암을 유발할 수 있는 위험 물질인 만큼, 군민들의 건강을 위해 조속한 처리가 필요하다”며 “많은 군민들께서 관심을 가지고 신청해 주시길 바란다”고 당부했다.
울진군은 이번 사업을 통해 주거 안전과 공공 보건 향상, 더불어 환경 친화적 생활환경 조성에 박차를 가할 계획이다.
