세종시에서 최근 수도검침원을 사칭해 주택에 침입을 시도하는 사건이 발생해 시민들의 각별한 주의가 요구된다.
세종시 상하수도사업소에 따르면, 지난 5일 조치원읍의 한 공동주택에서 한 남성이 수도검침원 행세를 하며 현관문을 열도록 유도해 주거침입을 시도했다. 다행히 거주자가 안전 문고리를 걸고 문을 열어 범죄 피해를 막을 수 있었다.
이 사건 이후 상하수도사업소는 유사 범죄 예방을 위해 읍면동과 각 민원실에 수도검침원 사칭 주의 안내문을 배포하고, 시민 홍보를 강화하고 있다.
공식 수도검침원은 반드시 시에서 발급한 신분증을 소지하고 있으며, 주민이 신분증 제시를 요구할 경우 이에 응해야 한다. 또한, 검침구역 변경 등 특별한 상황에는 사전 안내를 통해 방문 사실을 알리고 있다.
최근에는 상하수도사업소와 계약을 맺은 업체를 대상으로도 기관 사칭 주의 안내가 전달된 바 있다.
