최저임금위원회는 이달 10일 정부세종청사에서 제12차 전원회의를 개최하며, 이 같이 의결했다.
노·사·공 합의를 통한 8번째 결정이자, 2008년 이후 17년 만이다.
앞서 노동계가 요구한 최초 제시안은 1만1500원, 경영계는 1만30원이었다. 8차 수정안까지 노동계는 1만900원, 경영계는 1만180원으로 격차를 좁혔지만, 이후 협상은 지지부진했다.
이에 이번 심의에서는 10차회의에서 공익위원이 제시한 1만210원에서 1만440원까지 심의촉진구간 사이에서 간극을 좁혀 나가는 식으로 진행됐다. 올해 최저임금 1만30원 대비 각각 1.8~4.1% 상승한 수준이다.
민주노총 위원 4명이 예상보다 낮은 심의 촉진 구간에 반발하며 퇴장, 노·사·공 위원 23명의 합의로 내년 최저임금이 결정됐다.
한편, 최임위는 이날 의결한 최저임금안을 고용노동부 장관에게 제출해야 한다. 고용노동부가 이의제기 절차 등을 거쳐 8얼 5일까지 최저임금을 고시하면 내년 1월 1일부터 즉각 효력이 발생한다.
