도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 13일(현지시간) '한국·일본·EU(유럽연합) 등이 미국과의 상호관세 협상에서 관세를 낮추기 위해 자국 시장을 개방하려 한다'고 밝혔다.
영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 워싱턴DC 인근 앤드루스 합동기지에서 "EU는 우리와 대화를 원하고 있고, 그들 나라를 개방하고 싶어 한다"며 취재진에 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "일본은 시장을 개방하는 정도가 훨씬 덜 하다고 하겠다"며 "알다시피 일본은 미국서 우리한테 자동차 수백만대를 팔지만 우리 자동차를 받지 않아 우리는 일본에 자동차를 팔지 않는다"고 말했다.
또 "하지만 그들 모두 자기들 방식을 매우 매우 빠르게 바꾸고 있고, 한국은 협상을 타결하고 싶어 하며 관세 외 다른 방식으로 협상을 원하고 있다”며 "그들(한국)이 받고 있는 고통은 상당해 변화를 원하고 있다"고 전했다.
