브레이크뉴스 정민우 기자= KT는 도서산간 지역 청소년에게 수준 높은 인공지능(AI) 교육 기회를 제공하고, 전 국민이 AI 기술을 쉽고 흥미롭게 체험할 수 있도록 구성한 이동식 AI 체험관 ‘KT AI Station’의 운영을 시작한다고 16일 밝혔다.
‘KT AI 스테이션’은 K-intelligence와 ESG 체험관 등 AI 기술 체험 콘텐츠를 탑재한 이동식 체험 공간이다. 디지털 교육 접근성이 낮은 지역 청소년들이 인공지능 기술을 직접 체험하고 이해할 수 있도록 기획됐다.
K-intelligence 체험관에서는 ‘AI 스타디움’, ‘AI 스튜디오’ 등 KT의 최신 AI 기술을 활용한 콘텐츠를 통해 음성인식, 영상합성, 생성형 AI 기술 등을 쉽고 재미있게 경험할 수 있도록 구성됐다. ESG 체험관은 딥페이크와 가짜뉴스를 주제로 한 체험 프로그램을 통해 디지털 윤리와 정보 판별 능력에 대한 교육을 제공한다.
KT는 이달 15일 충청남도 부석중학교를 시작으로, 충청남도 내 8개 중학교에서 ‘KT AI 스테이션’을 활용한 현장 체험형 AI 교육을 순차적으로 진행한다. 대학생 IT서포터즈(KIT)가 직접 개발한 디지털 윤리 콘텐츠를 바탕으로 AI 코딩 교육과 멘토링도 병행되며, 청소년의 호기심과 주도적 참여를 유도하는 방식으로 진행된다.
KT는 2024년부터는 대학생 IT서포터즈(KIT)를 새롭게 선발해 도서산간 지역 중학생을 대상으로 AI 코딩 교육과 멘토링을 하고 있다. 올해 하반기까지 ‘KT AI 스테이션’ 운영을 전국으로 확대하고, 체험 중심의 찾아가는 AI 교육을 통해 청소년들이 미래 역량을 키울 수 있도록 지원할 계획이다.
KT는 2007년부터 국내 최초 IT 나눔 활동인 ‘IT서포터즈’를 시작으로, 디지털 격차 해소를 위한 사회공헌 활동을 지속적으로 추진해왔다. 현재까지 누적 수혜 인원은 약 400만 명에 달한다.
KT ESG경영추진실장 오태성 상무는 “AI는 미래 사회를 이끌 핵심 기술인 만큼, 청소년들이 이를 직접 체험해보는 것이 매우 중요하다”며 “디지털 접근성이 낮은 지역의 청소년들도 KT AI 스테이션을 통해 양질의 AI 교육을 받을 수 있도록 지원하고, 앞으로도 디지털 격차 해소를 위한 노력을 지속하겠다”고 말했다.

KT begins operating mobile AI experience center ‘AI Station’

AI coding education and mentoring will also be conducted based on digital ethics content developed directly by college student IT supporters (KIT), and will be conducted in a way that encourages curiosity and proactive participation of youth.
Starting in 2024, KT will select new college student IT supporters (KIT) and provide AI coding education and mentoring to middle school students in remote areas. It plans to expand the operation of ‘KT AI Station’ nationwide by the second half of this year and support youth to develop future capabilities through AI education focused on experience.
