KT&G가 폭염과 집중호우가 잇따르는 기후위기 속에서 어려움을 겪는 취약계층을 위해 여름나기 물품을 지난 5일 긴급 지원했다.
특히 올해 폭염으로 인한 전국 온열질환자는 지난 5일 기준 누적 3,200여 명으로 전년 동기 대비 두 배 이상 증가했으며 사망자도 19명에 달한다.
KT&G는 고온의 날씨에도 열악한 환경에서 생활중인 전국 1,000명의 취약계층 어르신들에게 5천만 원 상당의 냉감 소재 패드·이불 세트를 지원했다. 지원된 물품은 한국노인종합복지관협회를 통해 각 지역 노인복지관으로 전달될 예정이다.
일부 지역에는 KT&G의 임직원 봉사단이 폭염으로 어려움을 겪는 어르신들을 직접 찾아 물품을 전달하는 봉사활동도 진행했다.
이번 지원은 임직원 성금으로 조성된 ‘KT&G 상상펀드’를 통해 마련됐다. 상상펀드는 임직원이 급여 일부를 기부하면 회사가 동일 금액을 매칭해 조성하는 사회공헌기금으로, 2011년 출범 이후 지난해까지 누적 475억 원을 국내외 취약계층 지원과 재난 구호 등을 위해 지원했다.
