도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 11일(현지시간) "워싱턴 DC는 오늘 해방될 것이며 "범죄·야만·오물·인간쓰레기가 사라질 것"이라고 밝혔다.
미 'NYT(뉴욕타임스)' 영국 '로이터 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 자신의 트루스소셜 글을 통해 이같이 전했다.
그러면서 "무고한 사람들을 무자비하게 죽이거나 해치는 시대는 끝났다"며 "나는 신속하게 (불법 이민자 단속 등을 통해) 국경을 바로 잡았으며 다음은 워싱턴 DC"라고 덧붙였다.
앞서 지난 5일 트럼프 대통령은 자신의 트루스소셜 글에서 워싱턴 DC서 벌어진 청소년 갱단원들 폭력사건 등을 언급 후 "이런 일이 계속된다면 내 권한을 사용해 이 도시를 연방화할 것"이라고 경고한 바 있다.
이애 따라 트럼프 행정부는 수도 워싱턴 DC에서 노숙인·범죄와의 전쟁을 위해 주 방위군 병력·연방수사국(FBI) 요원들을 투입할 방침이다.
'NYT'는 '미 국방부 관계자가 이날 워싱턴 DC에서의 범죄에 강력 대응하란 트럼프 대통령 지시에 따라 주방위군 투입을 준비해둔 상태"라며 "투입될 주방위군은 워싱턴 DC에 주둔하는 병력 수백명이 될 것이라고 전했다"고 보도했다.

트럼프 대통령은 이날 악화된 워싱턴 DC 치안 상황 개선을 위해 연방 정부의 경찰국 직접 통제 및 주방위군 투입 사안을 발표했다.
