세종시가 오는 9월 1일부터 10월 12일까지 조치원읍 전역을 무대로 ‘2025 한글 국제 프레 비엔날레’를 개최한다.
세종시와 세종시문화관광재단이 주최하는 이번 행사는 2027년 제1회 한글 비엔날레를 앞두고 축제 분위기를 조성하고, 향후 비엔날레의 방향성을 모색하기 위해 마련됐다.
올해 프레 비엔날레의 주제는 **‘그리는 말, 이어진 삶’**으로, 한글의 역사와 현재, 미래를 국내외 작가들의 시선에서 재해석한 다양한 작품이 선보인다.
한국, 영국, 우루과이, 싱가포르 등 4개국에서 39명의 작가가 참여하며, 지역 작가 13명을 비롯해 세계적인 라이브 드로잉 아티스트 미스터 두들(Mr Doodle), 김휘아, 빠키 등 화려한 라인업이 구성됐다.
개막식은 9월 3일 오후 5시 30분 조치원1927아트센터에서 최민호 시장, 박영국 세종시문화관광재단 대표, 참여 작가와 시민 등이 참석한 가운데 열린다.
이어 9월 11일에는 같은 장소에서 싱가포르 국립예술위원장 엥 텅(Eng Teong)을 초청해 ‘예술로 살아나는 문자–HANGEUL RE:VIVE’를 주제로 한 국제포럼이 개최된다.
시민과 방문객을 위한 상설 체험 프로그램도 다채롭게 준비됐다. 작품을 활용한 컬러링 체험, 감상 워크숍, 연령별 교육 프로그램이 운영되며, 교육을 통해 양성된 한글 시민 도슨트가 하루 두 차례 작품 해설을 제공한다. 또한 스탬프 투어 등을 통해 조치원읍 곳곳의 문화공간을 즐길 수 있다.
세종시는 이번 행사가 한글의 조형적 아름다움과 현대적 감성을 세계적으로 알리고, 2027년 본격적인 한글 비엔날레로 이어지는 교두보 역할을 할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

Sejong City will host the '2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale' across Jochiwon-eup from September 1 to October 12.
Hosted by Sejong City and the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation, this event aims to create a festive atmosphere ahead of the inaugural Hangeul Biennale in 2027 and explore the future direction of the biennale.
The theme of this year's Pre-Biennale is "Drawing Words, Connected Lives," and various works reinterpreting the history, present, and future of Hangeul from the perspectives of domestic and international artists will be showcased.
Thirty-nine artists from four countries—Korea, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Singapore—will participate. The lineup includes 13 local artists and world-renowned live drawing artists Mr. Doodle, Kim Hwi-ah, and Paki.
The opening ceremony will be held at 5:30 PM on September 3rd at the Jochiwon 1927 Art Center, attended by Mayor Choi Min-ho, Park Young-guk, CEO of the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation, participating artists, and citizens.
Following this, an international forum titled "Hangeul Re:Vive: Letters Revived by Art" will be held at the same venue on September 11th, inviting Singapore's National Arts Commissioner Eng Teong.
A variety of permanent experiential programs are also available for citizens and visitors. These include coloring experiences using artwork, appreciation workshops, and age-appropriate educational programs. Trained Hangeul citizen docents will provide commentary on the artworks twice daily. Furthermore, participants can enjoy cultural spaces throughout Jochiwon-eup through activities such as stamp tours.
Sejong City anticipates that this event will showcase the formative beauty and modern sensibility of Hangeul globally and serve as a bridgehead for the full-fledged Hangeul Biennale in 2027.
