이날 안규백 장관은 자신의 SNS를 통해 “양국 장관은 이번 국방장관회담에서 양국 간 ‘포괄적 전략동반자 관계’에 걸맞은 국방 및 방산협력 증진을 위해 구체적인 방안을 논의하였다”고 밝혔다.
국방협력의 경우, 국방부 및 군 간 협력 범위 확대를 위해 「국방협력 MOU」의 조속한 개정을 추진하기로 합의했다.
방산협력의 경우, 그간 양국간 방산협력 성과를 평가하고 이러한 성과가 지속될 수 있도록 상호 노력해가기로 했다.
이어 “국방부 이갑수 군수관리관과 베트남 쩐 타잉 응이엠 (Tran Thanh Nghiem) 해군사령관은 양국 국방장관이 임석한 가운데 우리측 퇴역 초계함(제천함)의 양도 약정서를 체결하였다“고 전했다.
이번에 양도하는 초계함은 2017년과 2018년에 이어 한국이 베트남에 양도하는 세 번째 초계함이다.
