[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 20일 ‘글로벌 해양 허브도시 추진위원회’를 공식 구성하고, 부산을 세계적인 해양도시로 도약시키기 위한 본격적인 행보에 나선다고 밝혔다.
이번 추진위원회는 ‘동북아 해양수도 비전’ 선포 25주년과 부산항 개항 150주년을 맞아, 새 정부 출범과 해양수산부의 부산 이전 등 대외 여건을 기회로 삼아 출범했다. 위원회는 부산이 글로벌 해양경제를 주도하는 도시로 성장하기 위한 핵심 의제를 발굴하고, 시민 공감대를 형성하는 등의 역할을 수행하게 된다.
위원회에는 지역 산업계, 해양 클러스터 연구기관, 해양금융, 대학, 언론, 시민단체 등 총 60여 개 기관 및 단체가 참여하며, 산·학·연·민·관이 협력하는 범지역적 거버넌스를 형성한다. 또한 분야별 분과위원회, 운영위원회, 정책협의회 등을 통해 구체적인 정책 논의도 진행될 예정이다.
이번 조직은 지난해 12월 출범한 ‘해양 싱크탱크 정책협력 네트워크’, ‘북극항로 개척 전담조직(TF)’ 등 기존의 해양 관련 협의체 운영 경험을 토대로 구성되었으며, 해양신산업 분야에서 메가 프로젝트를 추진할 사령탑(컨트롤 타워) 역할을 하게 된다.
부산시는 이달 말 ‘글로벌 해양 허브도시’ 비전과 전략을 발표할 예정이며, 향후 대정부 건의 등 중앙정부와의 소통도 강화할 방침이다.
박형준 부산시장은 “부산이 해운·항만·물류를 넘어 해양신산업, 해양과학기술, 해양금융, 국제협력, 문화·관광 등을 아우르는 글로벌 해양경제를 선도하기 위해 지역의 해양 혁신역량을 결집하겠다”며 “부산이 대한민국을 대표하는 해양강국 실현의 중심축이 되겠다”고 밝혔다.

The Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Heong-joon) officially launched the Global Maritime Hub City Promotion Committee on August 20, aiming to propel Busan toward becoming a leading global maritime city by consolidating regional innovation capacities.
The committee was established in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Northeast Asia Maritime Capital Vision and the 150th anniversary of the opening of Busan Port. The launch also leverages key opportunities such as the inauguration of the new national government and the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan.
The committee’s main roles include identifying key agendas that will enable Busan to lead the global maritime economy, forming public consensus, and securing the momentum needed to implement major policy initiatives.
Over 60 organizations—including local industries, maritime cluster research institutes, marine finance institutions, universities, media, and civic groups—are participating. These entities will collaborate across academia, industry, research, civil society, and government to establish a comprehensive governance framework. The committee will also include subcommittees by sector, as well as operational and policy councils to facilitate in-depth policy discussions.
This new initiative builds on Busan’s previous experiences operating maritime-related bodies such as the Marine Think Tank Policy Cooperation Network (launched in December 2024) and the Arctic Route Development Task Force. The committee is expected to serve as a control tower for discovering and promoting mega projects in emerging marine industries.
Busan plans to announce its Global Maritime Hub City Vision and Strategy by the end of this month, and will strengthen communication with the central government through official policy proposals.
Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “Busan will move beyond being simply a center of shipping, ports, and logistics, and take the lead in the global maritime economy by encompassing marine industries, marine science and technology, marine finance, international cooperation, and maritime culture and tourism. We will consolidate our accumulated innovative capabilities in the maritime field and play a central role in establishing South Korea as a true maritime powerhouse.”
