[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 탄화규소(SiC, 실리콘카바이드) 반도체 분야 세계 최대·최고 권위 학술대회인 '제22회 국제탄화규소학술대회(ICSCRM 2025)'가 14~19일까지 벡스코에서 개최된다.
ICSCRM(International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials)은 ▲특강(튜토리얼 세션)을 시작으로 ▲기조 강연 ▲구두 발표 등 다양한 학술 프로그램이 진행되며, 세계 16개국의 기업이 참여해 240여 개 전시관을 운영한다. 전시관에는 ▲울프스피드 ▲인피니언 등 세계적 기업이 참여하고, ▲부산 전력반도체 선도기업 아이큐랩이 최고 등급(스타 등급) 후원사로 나서 ‘전력반도체 도시 부산’의 위상을 보여준다.
국제탄화규소학술대회는 1987년 처음 시작되어 미국·유럽·일본에서 순환 개최됐으며, 2022년 스위스 다보스 대회에서 부산이 개최지로 확정됐다. 미국·유럽·일본 외 지역에서 열리는 첫 대회이자, 아시아에서는 일본을 제외하고 처음 개최되는 것으로 의미가 크다. 향후 개최지는 ▲2026년 일본 요코하마 ▲2027년 영국 웨일즈 ▲2028년 프랑스 리옹으로 예정돼 있다.
부산시는 ▲전력반도체 소부장 특화단지 지정(2023년 7월) ▲기회발전특구 추가 지정(2024년 12월)에 이어 이번 세계적 학술 행사 유치를 통해 '글로벌 전력반도체 허브도시'로서 입지를 더욱 공고히 할 계획이다.
또한, 대회 기간 전력반도체 기업 ▲네이처플라워세미컨덕터 착공식(16일) ▲아이큐랩 본사 및 공장 준공식(17일) 등이 예정되어 있어 지역 산업 투자 성과가 가시화될 전망이다.
아울러, 이번 학술대회는 약 600편의 초록이 접수되어 500여 편이 최종 발표로 채택돼 역대 최대 규모의 연구 성과 발표가 이루어지며, 단순한 학술 교류를 넘어 한국 문화를 세계에 알리는 장으로도 운영된다.
개막일(14일) 환영 리셉션에서는 한국 전통 풍물놀이로 행사의 시작을 알리고, 대회 기간 김밥·떡볶이·비빔밥·어묵 등 부산과 한국의 대표 먹거리를 선보인다.
갈라 디너(18일)에서는 대금·피리·해금 등 전통악기 공연과 크로스오버 그룹 ‘포레스텔라’의 무대가 마련돼 한국 문화의 매력을 세계 각국 참가자에게 전달한다. 이외에도 ▲부산 주요 관광지 탐방 ▲한국 문화 체험 ▲부산국제영화제(BIFF) 참관 등 연계 프로그램을 통해 참가자들이 부산의 매력을 체험하는 ‘민간 외교사절단’ 역할도 수행한다.
ICSCRM공동조직위원장인 신훈규 전기전자재료학회장은 “이번 대회는 부산시가 전력반도체 산업의 글로벌 허브로 자리매김하는 전환점이 될 것”이라고 전했다. 공동조직위원장 구상모 광운대학교 교수는 “산학연관 관계자들이 국제 협력망(글로벌 네트워크)을 강화함으로써 전력반도체 생태계가 더욱 단단해질 수 있도록 개최 준비에 최선을 다하겠다”라고 전했다.
박형준 시장은 “'국제탄화규소학술대회 2025' 부산 개최는 전력반도체 분야에서 우수한 부산의 기술과 산업 역량을 종합적으로 보여주는 성과”라며, “단순한 학술대회 개최를 넘어 대한민국의 문화(K-Culture)와 인재·산업이 유기적으로 융합하는 '글로벌 허브도시' 부산의 위상을 확고히 할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”라고 밝혔다.

Busan is hosting the 22nd International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (ICSCRM 2025) at BEXCO from September 14th to 19th. This event, the world's largest and most prestigious academic conference in the field of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, marks the beginning of 'Power Semiconductor Power Week'.
Record-Breaking Scale and Strengthening Busan's Position
The conference features diverse academic programs, including tutorials, keynote lectures, and oral presentations. Over 240 exhibition booths will be operated by companies from 16 countries, including global leaders like Wolfspeed and Infineon. IQ Lab, a leading power semiconductor company in Busan, is participating as a top-tier sponsor, showcasing Busan's stature as a "power semiconductor city."
With nearly 600 abstracts submitted and over 500 selected for final presentation, this conference is the largest ever in terms of research outcomes.
The ICSCRM, which began in 1987, has historically rotated between the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Busan was chosen as the host city at the 2022 conference in Davos, Switzerland. This marks the first time the event is being held outside of the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and the first time in Asia outside of Japan, making it a highly significant occasion. Future host cities are planned to be Yokohama, Japan (2026), Wales, UK (2027), and Lyon, France (2028).
Busan plans to solidify its position as a 'global hub for power semiconductors' through this event, following its designation as a Specialized District for Materials, Parts, and Equipment in July 2023 and the additional designation of a Special Zone for Regional Development in December 2024.
A Platform for Academic Exchange and Cultural Diplomacy
The conference is not just for academic exchange; it also serves as a platform to introduce Korean culture to the world. The welcome reception on September 14th will feature a traditional Korean pungmul performance, and throughout the event, attendees can enjoy popular Korean foods such as gimbap, tteokbokki, bibimbap, and eomuk.
The gala dinner on September 18th will include performances of traditional Korean instruments like daegeum, piri, and haegeum, as well as a performance by the crossover group Forestella, showcasing the charm of Korean culture to international participants.
Additionally, various linked programs, including tours of major Busan tourist attractions, Korean cultural experiences, and attendance at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), allow participants to act as 'private diplomatic envoys' by experiencing the city's charm firsthand.
Shin Hoon-kyu, co-organizing committee chairman of the ICSCRM and president of the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers, stated that "this conference will be a turning point for Busan to establish itself as a global hub for the power semiconductor industry." Gu Sang-mo, a co-organizing committee chairman and professor at Kwangwoon University, added, "We will do our best to prepare for the event so that industry, academia, and government stakeholders can strengthen their international networks and solidify the power semiconductor ecosystem."
Busan Mayor Park Heong-jun commented, "Hosting 'ICSCRM 2025' is a testament to Busan's excellent technology and industrial capabilities in the power semiconductor sector.
