충남 서산시가 천수만을 찾는 철새들의 먹이와 쉼터 확보를 위해 대규모 생태계서비스 지불제 사업에 나섰다. 시는 올해 ‘2025년 생태계서비스 지불제 계약사업’에 총 348명의 농업인이 참여하는 계약을 체결하고 오는 2026년 3월 10일까지 사업을 추진한다고 17일 밝혔다.
이번 사업은 천수만 A·B지구 간척 농지를 대상으로 진행되며, 철새의 안정적인 서식 환경을 마련하기 위해 볏짚 존치 또는 무논(쉼터) 조성 방식으로 운영된다.
계약 면적은 볏짚 존치가 1,779필지, 약 1,926ha 규모이며, 무논 조성은 119필지, 약 149ha에 달한다. 볏짚 존치 참여 농업인은 벼 수확 후 철새가 먹을 수 있도록 낙곡 등 일부 작물을 남겨 둬야 하며, 중간 수거 등 철새의 먹이 환경을 해치는 행위는 금지된다. 무논 조성 농업인은 수심 30cm 이내의 담수를 사업 종료 시까지 유지해야 한다.
