브레이크뉴스 최애리 기자= 카카오톡이 출시 15년 만에 가장 큰 폭의 변화를 맞는다. 이용자 편의성을 대폭 강화하는 한편, 오픈AI사의 인공지능(AI) 챗봇 ‘챗GPT’를 탑재하면서 다양한 기능을 쓸 수 있는 ‘슈퍼 앱’으로 진화한다.
카카오는 23일 경기 용인시 카카오AI캠퍼스에서 열린 ‘이프카카오 25’에서 이같은 개편안을 공개했다.
정신아 카카오 대표는 이 자리에서 “이번 개편은 사용자 목소리를 반영해 더 쾌적하고 자유로운 대화 환경을 만들고, 나를 표현하고 세상을 탐색하는 공간을 넓히는 데 집중했다”고 말했다.
채팅 기능 대폭 강화
이번 개편으로 채팅방을 목적별로 묶는 채팅방 폴더가 도입된다. 가족, 친구, 직장 등 최대 10개 폴더를 만들 수 있으며, 각 폴더에는 최대 100개 채팅방을 담을 수 있다. 이미 보낸 메시지는 24시간 내 수정할 수 있으며, 수정된 말풍선에는 ‘수정됨’ 표시가 붙는다.
보이스톡에는 통화 녹음, 텍스트 변환, AI 요약 기능이 적용된다. 기기 종류나 통신사와 관계없이 누구나 통화를 녹음할 수 있으며, 녹음 내용은 AI가 자동으로 요약·검색할 수 있다. 녹음 파일은 요약 후 즉시 삭제되고 서버로 전송되지 않는다.
친구탭은 인스타그램 스타일 피드형 UI로 바뀌며, 프로필 변경 내역이나 게시물을 타임라인에서 확인할 수 있다. 공개 범위 설정 등 프라이버시 기능도 강화된다.

카카오톡 속 챗GPT…카카오 서비스와 연동
카카오는 다음 달부터 카카오톡 채팅탭에서 별도 앱 설치 없이 챗GPT를 사용할 수 있도록 할 계획이다. 최신 모델 GPT-5가 적용돼 텍스트·이미지 처리, 파일 인식, 이미지 생성 등 기존 챗GPT 기능을 그대로 활용할 수 있다.
챗GPT는 카카오 서비스와도 연결된다. 선물 추천, 음악 추천, 위치 검색 등 이용자 요청을 인식하면 카카오 에이전트가 멜론, 카카오맵, 선물하기 등 관련 서비스를 바로 실행한다.
올리버 제이 오픈AI 글로벌 비즈니스 총괄은 “카카오와 협력해 챗GPT를 현지화된 방식으로 제공하게 돼 기쁘다. 카카오 생태계와 결합해 AI가 일상에서 더욱 유용하게 활용될 것”이라고 밝혔다.
대화 속 AI ‘카나나’…일정·예약·검색까지 제안
카카오는 대화 맥락을 이해하고 일정 관리, 예약, 검색 등을 먼저 제안하는 ‘카나나 인 카카오톡’도 연내 도입할 계획이라고 전했다. ‘카나나 검색’ 기능을 통해 대화 중 언제든 AI를 불러 검색 결과를 공유하며 대화를 확장할 수 있다.
카나나는 카카오가 개발한 온디바이스 AI 모델 ‘카나나 나노’를 활용하며, 데이터를 외부로 보내지 않고 스마트폰 내에서만 작동하도록 설계됐다.
강지훈 카카오 AI디스커버리 성과리더는 “세계 최고 수준의 한국어 이해 능력을 갖추고 있어 이용자의 일상에서 안전하게 도움을 줄 수 있다”고 설명했다.
카나나 웹사이트에서 베타 테스트 신청이 가능하며, 선정자는 다음 달 중순부터 참여할 수 있다.
정신아 대표는 “카카오톡과 AI의 결합으로 5천만 이용자의 일상 속 AI 활용 경험을 확대하고, 모바일 생태계를 넘어 AI 생태계로 확장될 것”이라고 강조했다.

VoiceTalk features call recording, text conversion, and AI summarization. Anyone can record calls, regardless of device type or carrier, and AI automatically summarizes and searches the recordings. Recordings are deleted immediately after summarization and are not sent to servers.

The "Kanana Search" feature allows users to summon the AI at any time during a conversation, share search results, and expand the conversation.
Kanana utilizes "Kanana Nano," an on-device AI model developed by Kakao, and is designed to operate solely on smartphones without sending data externally.

Beta testing applications are available on the Kanana website, and selected applicants will be able to participate starting in mid-next month.
