【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포스코가 9월 25일 경북 포항 영일만4산업단지 내 이차전지 특화단지에서 산업용 가스 생산설비 준공식을 개최하고 본격적인 상업 생산에 돌입했다. 이는 제철소 외부에 최초로 구축한 산업가스 설비로, 포스코의 산업가스 시장 진출 신호탄으로 평가된다.
포스코는 약 1,000억 원을 투자해 약 5,000평 부지에 공기분리장치(ASU)와 산소·액산 저장설비(액산 저장용량 2,000톤 규모)를 완공했다. 해당 설비는 시간당 1만5천Nm³의 산소를 생산할 수 있으며, 생산된 가스는 배관을 통해 인근 이차전지 특화단지 입주기업에 직접 공급된다.
이번 준공은 산업가스사업실 신설(2021년) 이후, 2023년 산업가스사업부로 조직을 확대하며 추진한 포스코의 전략적 투자 결과로, 이차전지·반도체·조선 등 다양한 전방산업의 가스 수급 안정화는 물론 지역 경제 활성화에도 기여할 전망이다.
이날 준공식에는 포스코퓨처엠, 에코프로AP 등 고객사와 에어리퀴드, 플랜텍, 포스코DX 등 협력사 관계자들이 참석했다. 신성원 포스코 경영기획본부장은 “안전사고 없이 공사를 마칠 수 있었던 것은 임직원과 협력사들의 헌신 덕분”이라며, “앞으로도 안전을 최우선으로, 산업가스 사업의 안정성과 경쟁력을 높여 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
포스코는 향후 철강·이차전지·반도체·화학·자동차 등 다양한 산업 분야에 고품질 산업가스를 안정적으로 공급하며 신성장 사업 다각화와 산업가스 시장 내 입지 강화에 나설 계획이다.

This completion is the result of POSCO's strategic investment, following the establishment of the Industrial Gases Business Division (2021) and the subsequent expansion into the Industrial Gases Division in 2023. It is expected to contribute to the stabilization of gas supply and demand for various downstream industries, including secondary batteries, semiconductors, and shipbuilding, as well as to the revitalization of the local economy. The completion ceremony was attended by representatives from clients such as POSCO Future M and EcoPro AP, as well as partners such as Air Liquide, Plantec, and POSCO DX.Shin Seong-won, Head of POSCO's Management Planning Division, stated, "We were able to complete the construction without any safety incidents thanks to the dedication of our employees and partners.
