김홍업 김대중평화센터 이사장(김대중 전 대통령 차남)이 9월24일 숙환으로 별세했다. 향년 75세이다.
김정현 김대중평화센터 대변인은 고인을 추모하는 부고의 글에서 “그는 김대중 전 대통령의 곁을 지키며 대한민국 민주화 운동의 중심에서 묵묵히 헌신해 온 숨은 공로자였다. 또한 1997년 대통령 선거에서는 탁월한 선거 전략가로 활약하며 정권교체를 이끈 주역으로 평가 받는다”고 썼다.

필자는 김홍업 전 의원님(아태평화재단 부이사장/제17대 국회의원)을 1992년-1997년 대통령 선거 때 가까이 할 수 있었다. 나는 두 번의 대선 당시, 토요신문-주간현대 편집국장이었으며, 이때 대선에 일조했다. 특히 김대중 대통령께서 취임(1998년 2월25일)한 이후, 필자가 김대중 대통령이 집권한 이후 첫 인터뷰어였는데, 이때 이분이 막후(幕後)에서 도움을 주었다.

필자는 김홍업 전 의원님과 가까운 사이로 지냈었다. 그 분의 아버지인 김대중 전 대통령님은 한국의 민주주의의를 안착시킨 장본인이다. 한국을 동아시아의 정치 선진국가로 만들었다. 이 부분은 형이상학적(形而上學的)이다. 정신의 문제이다.
