대통령실이 29일 '이재명 대통령-이시바 시게루 일본 총리 간 한·일 정상회담이 30일 부산에서 개최된다"고 전했다. 이시바 총리는 지난 7일 공식 사의를 표명한 바 있는 가운데 이번 방문은 총리로서 마지막 방한이다.
위성락 국가안보실장은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 간담회에서 "이번 정상회담은 지난 8월 방일에 대한 일본 총리 답방이 한 달 만에 이뤄지면서 셔틀 외교 복원이 정착됐다는 의미를 가진다"며 "신정부 출범 3개월여 만에 상호 방문을 완성해 소통·협력 선순환을 공고히 하겠다는 의지가 천명됐다"고 했다.

더불어 "격변하는 지정학적 환경·무역 질서 속 협력 파트너로서 한·일이 함께 고민하고 기여하는 방안으로 논의 지평을 확대하는 기회가 될 것"이라며 "(이시바 총리가) 퇴임 후에도 정계 중견 정치인으로서 한·일 관계 발전·성장 위해 역할을 해줄 것을 논의하는 자리도 될 것"이라고 했다.
