어촌 빈집 재생사업은 부산·인천·여수·광양·울산항만공사가 출연한 기금을 활용해 늘어나는 어촌 빈집을 정비하고, 어촌·어항 재생사업과 연계해 경관 개선과 지역 가치 상승, 안전사고 예방 등을 목표로 추진된다.
영덕군은 예산 배정 등 행정 절차가 마무리되는 대로 경정2항 내 빈집 2동을 리모델링해 어촌체험마을 숙소, 귀어인·외국인 노동자 쉐어하우스, 마을 공동시설 등으로 활용할 계획이다. 특히 경정2항은 영덕대게 원조마을로 귀어인과 외국인 노동자가 지속적으로 유입되고 있어, 리모델링된 빈집이 안정적인 정착에 큰 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.
아울러 인근 차유어촌체험마을 개선 사업과 연계해 추진함으로써 관광 활성화와 경관 개선 측면에서도 시너지 효과가 예상된다.
김광열 영덕군수는 “이번 공모 선정은 주민 정주 여건 개선과 지역 활성화의 마중물이 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 신규 어촌·어항 재생사업을 적극 발굴해 활력이 넘치고 살기 좋은 어촌·연안 생활권을 만들어 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

Yeongdeok County plans to remodel two vacant houses within Gyeongjeong 2nd Port as soon as budget allocation and other administrative procedures are finalized and utilize them as accommodations for a fishing village experience village, share houses for returning fishermen and foreign workers, and community facilities. In particular, Gyeongjeong Port 2, the original Yeongdeok snow crab village, is seeing a steady influx of returning fishermen and foreign workers. Therefore, the remodeled vacant houses are expected to significantly contribute to their stable settlement.
Furthermore, by linking the project with the nearby Chayu Fishing Village Experience Village improvement project, synergy effects are expected in terms of tourism promotion and landscape enhancement.
Yeongdeok County Mayor Kim Gwang-yeol stated, "This selection will serve as a catalyst for improving residential conditions and regional revitalization. We will continue to actively identify new fishing village and fishing port revitalization projects to create vibrant and livable fishing villages and coastal communities."
