(브레이크뉴스 광주·전남) 이학수 기자=전라남도는 제31호 민간정원으로 등록된 담양 '달빛여행정원'이 14일 정식 개방됐다고 밝혔다.
대나무 사진작가로 알려진 라규채, 박성자 부부가 2013년 고향으로 귀촌해 12년간 정성껏 가꿔온 결실이다.
이날 열린 개방 행사에는 정철원 담양군수, 한동길 국립정원문화원장, 지역주민 등 100여 명이 참석해 정원 개방을 축하했다.
담양 대덕면 시목리에 자리한 '달빛여행정원'은 너른 들판과 지리산 천왕봉, 반야봉까지 이어지는 차경(借景)을 정원과 함께 감상하며 달밤에 정원을 여행하듯 힐링하길 바라는 정원주의 마음이 담긴 이름이다.
3천672㎡ 면적에 580여 종의 수목과 초화류가 식재된 정원은 크게 내원과 외원으로 구성됐다. 내원은 150년 된 석류나무와 매화, 나무, 조형물이 잔디밭과 어우러져 가족의 이야기를 담고 있다.

라규채 정원주는 "어린 시절 조부의 정원 가꾸는 모습을 보며 사계절 꽃이 피는 아름다운 정원을 늘 마음에 그려왔다"며 2020년 전남도 예쁜정원 콘테스트 최우수상에 이어 이번 민간정원 등록에 대한 영광을 전했다.
그는 "검이불루(儉而不陋), 화이불치(華而不侈)의 마음으로 소박하지만 누추하지 않고 화려하지만 사치스럽지 않은 정원을 후손에게 물려주겠다"는 포부를 밝혔다.
