(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 전국교원양성대학교 총장협의회(회장 박병춘 전주교육대학교 총장)가 지난 15일 진주교육대학교에서 임시회의를 열고, AI시대에 적합한 교육 발전의 관점에서 초등교사 정원 감축의 문제를 지적하고 개선 방향을 논의했다고 밝혔다.
총장협의회에 따르면, 학교 현장에서 학습 부진, 정서·행동 문제, 다문화·특수교육 등 복합적 교육 과제가 급증하고 있는 상황에서, 초등교원의 정원 감축은 교육 현장의 현실과 괴리된 조치라고 지적했다.

아울러 AI 기반 교육이 효과적으로 작동하기 위해서는 AI를 교육적으로 해석하고 활용할 수 있는 충분한 초등교사 확보와 전문 연수체계 구축이 필수라고 강조했다.
이를 위해 초등교원 양성대학이 중심이 되어 AI 교육전문교원 양성체계를 구축하고, 예비교사 교육과 현직교사 연수를 연계하는 국가적 지원 체계 마련이 시급하다고 제안했다.
박병춘 회장은 “AI는 교육의 도구일 뿐 학습자에 대한 이해와 관계 형성은 결국 교사의 몫”이라며 “AI 시대일수록 교사의 역할은 더욱 커지고, 초등교사 정원 유지와 분야별 증원은 대한민국 교육의 지속가능성을 위한 국가의 책무”라고 강조했다.
