경기북부보훈지청이 지난 10월 23일, 포천시에 위치한 면암 최익현 선생 동상을 방문해 '의(義)와 절개의 정신을 되새기는 현충시설 홍보활동'을 성공적으로 마쳤다.
이는 올해 2월부터 추진 중인 '4인 5각 함께 걸어 보훈' 현충시설 홍보 프로젝트의 일환으로, 직원들이 직접 현충시설의 가치를 재조명하고 국민과 보훈의 의미를 나누기 위해 기획되었다.

이번에 방문한 청성역사공원 내 면암 최익현 선생 동상은 선생의 충절과 나라 사랑 정신을 기리는 대표적인 현충시설이자 선생의 고향인 포천 지역에 위치해 의미를 더했다.
직원들은 선생의 생애와 업적을 돌아보며 '선비의 의리와 나라사랑 정신'을 직접 체험하고 홍보하는 시간을 가졌다.
주요 활동으로는 면암 최익현 선생 관련 퀴즈 프로그램과 어록 손글씨 필사 활동이 진행되었다.

참가자들은 단발령 반대, 의병운동, 쓰시마 순국 등 선생의 삶을 담은 퀴즈를 풀며 '의(義) 정신'을 오늘의 보훈정신으로 되새겼다.
이어 진행된 캘리그래피 필사 활동에서는 “吾頭可斷 此髮不可斷(오두가단 차발불가단, 내 머리는 베어도 이 머리카락은 자를 수 없다)” 등 선생의 어록을 직접 손글씨로 옮겨 적으며 면암의 드높은 기개와 절의를 마음속에 새기는 시간을 가졌다.

이 날 활동에 참여한 복지과 주무관은 "면암 최익현 선생의 의(義) 정신은 오늘날 공직자가 지녀야 할 올바른 자세와도 맞닿아 있다"며 "앞으로도 국민이 공감하고 참여할 수 있는 보훈문화 확산 활동을 지속해 나가겠다"고 밝혔다.
