27일 대구시 산격청사에서 열린 국회 행정안전위원회 대구시 국정감사에서는 통합난임치료센터가 개설된 지 채 1년도 지나지 않아 의료진이 떠나게 된 경위를 놓고 질의가 집중됐다.
권칠승 더불어민주당 의원은 “지난 7월 정기감사에서 난임센터 관계자들에 대한 징계가 대거 이뤄졌다”며 “이 여파로 어렵게 초빙한 의료진이 센터를 떠난 것 아니냐”고 따져 물었다.
이어 권 의원이 “의료진 이탈이 감사와 연관 있느냐”고 묻자, 김태운 대구시 보건복지국장은 “그것만은 아닌 것으로 알고 있다. 해당 의사가 개인 병원 개원 준비로 그만둔 걸로 안다”고 해명했다.
그러자 권 의원은 “난임센터 신설 당시 어떤 분을 모셨다며 홍보까지 했는데, 1년도 안 돼 그만둔다면 이게 무슨 공공의료정책이냐”며 “결국 정책 실패”라고 날을 세웠다.
김 국장은 “전문가가 1년 가까이 개소를 위해 힘썼는데, 갑작스럽게 개인 사정으로 사퇴해 저희도 난감하다”고 말했다.
이에 대해 우리복지시민연합은 28일 성명을 내고 “김 국장 발언은 황당하다”며 “센터 설치부터 지금의 사태까지 대구시 스스로 졸속, 무능, 무책임 행정을 인정한 셈”이라고 강하게 비판했다.
대구시는 지난해 12월, “난임 전문의를 새로 초빙해 검사·치료·출산까지 원스톱으로 지원하는 통합난임치료센터를 설치했다”며 대대적으로 홍보한 바 있다.
하지만 결과는 정반대였다. 우리복지시민연합은 “장담이 잉크 마르기도 전에 난임 부부와 시민들에게 좌절과 상처만 안겼다”며 “몇 달도 안 돼 퇴사할 의사를 위해 13억 원의 예산을 쏟아부었으니, 혈세 낭비와 행정 불신만 더 커진 것”이라고 목소리를 높였다.
단체는 “센터 좌초 책임을 개인에 돌리며 슬그머니 넘어가려는 대구시를 규탄한다”며 “시민들에게 공개적으로 사과하고, 어떻게 책임질지 명확히 밝혀야 한다”고 촉구했다.
이어 “앞서 생명존중센터 위기관리병동도 컨트롤타워 역할을 맡겠다며 개설했다가 이내 문을 닫더니, 이번에는 통합난임치료센터까지 폐쇄 위기에 내몰렸다”며 “대구시의 무능과 무책임이 낳은 졸속행정의 결과”라고 비판했다.
단체는 끝으로 “김정기 대구시장 권한대행은 시민들에게 진심 어린 사과와 책임 있는 대책을 내놓으라”고 밝혔다.

Now, even the Integrated Infertility Treatment Center is facing closure," criticizing the city for its "hasty administrative actions, driven by the city's incompetence and irresponsibility."
The group concluded, "Acting Daegu Mayor Kim Jeong-gi must offer a sincere apology to the citizens and come up with responsible measures."
