이재명 대통령이 1일 “(한·중 관계는) 단순히 회복을 넘어 서로 도움되는 협력의 길을 다시 찾아가야 한다”고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 경북 경주 화백컨벤션센터(HICO) '2025 APEC(아시아태평양경제협력체) 정상회의' 국제미디어센터(IMC)에서 열린 내·외신 기자회견에서 “한·중 관계는 외형적으로는 특별히 문제없어 보이나 실질적으로 관계가 완전 정상화되거나 회복됐다 보기 어려운 상태”라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 “한·중은 여러 부문서 경쟁하는 관계이기도 하나 여러 측면에서 협력하는 관계이기도 하다"며 "국가 간 관계는 매우 복합적이어서 보이는 것과 안 보이는 게 공존하고 협력·경쟁·대결이 공존한다”고 밝혔다.
또 “미국도 중국과 경쟁·갈등하고 적대적으로 보이나 잘 보이지 않은 국면에서 협력·거래·지원한다"며 "대한민국과 중국도 지리적으로 가깝고 경제적으로 서로 깊이 의지하고 협력한다”고 했다.
이어 “앞으로는 외부 작은 장애들이 있어도 그 장애를 넘어 더 큰 이익·변화를 향해 나아가려 한다"며 "한반도 평화·안정을 정착시키는 데도 중국 역할이 매우 중요하고, 한반도가 안정돼야 동북아도 안정되고 그게 중국 이익에 부합하는 만큼 큰 역할을 기대하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.
한편 이 대통령은 대북 관계 관련해선 "북측 의심·대결적 사고를 바꾸려면 상당한 노력이 필요하다"며 "북측이 안심하고 남측을 조금이라도 믿을 수 있게 만들기 위한 선제 조치를 하고 있으며 앞으로도 그런 노력이 계속될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
그러면서 "북측이 여러 계기 적대적 표현을 사용하는 것도 변화 과정서 나올 수밖에 없는 하나의 표현이라 생각한다"며 "과거보다 표현 강도가 매우 완화된 것 같다"고 했다.
또 "한반도 문제는 언제나 매우 복합적이고 어렵다"며 "평화·안정은 강력한 억지력도 필요하나 최종 단계에선 언제나 대화·타협·공존·공영 의지가 있어야 한다"고 했다.
더불어 "싸울 필요 없게 만드는 게 확고한 평화·안보라 생각한다"며 "이를 실천하려 한다"고 덧붙였다.
