물이 얼어야
얼음이 된다는 것이 아니었네
눈이 내려 쌓이고 쌓여
그 무게의 두께,
만년의 깊이로 깊어지면
얼음이 된 다는 것을
게이랑에드에서 알게 되었네
그 만년의 얼음이
다시 녹고 녹아 만들어졌다는
피오르드 협곡
슬금슬금 거슬러 오르다 보면
아득한 시간의 울음소리가 들린다
푸른 별빛이 내려와
소곤대는 이야기 소리도 들린다
출렁이며 흘러가는
때 묻지 않은 저 빙하의 숨결
내 귀를 대고 들어보면
시간이 물처럼 얼었다 녹는
이 불가역의 자리,
내 어린 시절
눈사람 뭉치던 내가 보인다.

Water doesn't have to freeze
to become ice.
Snow falls and piles up,
and its weight,
deepened by the depth of ten thousand years,
becomes ice.
I learned this in Geiranger.
That ten thousand years of ice
melt and melted again,
and was formed in the fjord canyon.
As I slowly ascend,
I hear the distant cry of time.
The blue starlight descends,
and I hear whispering stories.
The unspoiled breath of that glacier, rippling and flowing.

Poet Kang Min-sook was born in Buan, Jeollabuk-do. She holds a master's degree in creative writing from Dongguk University and a doctorate in creative writing from Myongji University. He is the author of the poetry collections "Burying You in the Sunset," "You Float to an Island in the Sea," "Flowers Don't Blame the Wind," "There Is No Nest," "Reading Chaeseokgang," and "The Song of the Boy Worker Jaemyeong," as well as over ten other books. He is the publisher and editor-in-chief of Donggang Literature (former). He is also the CEO of the book publishing company "Big Tree of Thought." He is also the Vice-Chairman of the Buan County Donghak Peasant Revolution Steering Committee and a member of the Buan County Regional Economic Development Special Committee. He is a former director of the Korean Writers Association. He is a former spokesperson for the Korean National Arts Federation and the director of the ICLAA Creative Writing Center.
