북구청에 따르면 서변숲도서관은 최근 열린 제34회 대구광역시 건축상 공공부문에서 우수상을 차지했다.
서변숲도서관은 ‘세대를 잇는 지혜숲, 함께 여는 미래의 문’이라는 슬로건 아래 올해 3월 문을 열었다. 이번 건축상은 최근 3년 이내 사용승인을 받은 건축물을 대상으로 심사했으며, 서변숲도서관은 자연과 공간의 조화를 성공적으로 이뤄냈다는 평가를 받았다.
특히 2층과 3층을 연결하는 계단형 열람공간이 주민들의 시선을 끌었다. 이곳에서는 커다란 창을 통해 서변근린공원의 풍경을 감상하면서 독서를 즐길 수 있어 만족도가 높다. 같은 건물 내에 노인복지관이 함께 들어서 세대 간 소통도 이뤄지는 등 복합커뮤니티 공간이라는 점이 수상에 긍정적으로 작용했다.
수상식은 지난 5일 수성못 상화동산에서 열린 ‘2025 대구건축비엔날레’ 개막식과 함께 진행됐다. 북구청은 상패와 동판을, 설계사 ‘씨마 건축사사무소’와 시공사 ‘도개종합건설’도 각각 상패를 받았다.
배광식 북구청장은 “이번 수상을 계기로 서변숲도서관이 지역 문화의 중심으로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 힘쓰겠다”며 “주민 누구나 일상에서 책과 문화를 쉽게 누릴 수 있도록 다양한 프로그램을 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

The staircase-style reading space connecting the second and third floors particularly caught the attention of residents. This space offers a high level of satisfaction, allowing residents to enjoy reading while taking in the views of Seobyeon Neighborhood Park through large windows. The building's location as a senior welfare center, which facilitates communication between generations, also contributed to the library's award.
The awards ceremony took place on the 5th, coinciding with the opening ceremony of the "2025 Daegu Architecture Biennale," held at Sanghwa Hill in Suseongmot Lake. The Buk-gu Office received a plaque and a bronze plaque, while the design firm Seema Architects and the construction company Dogae Construction each received plaques.
Buk-gu Mayor Bae Gwang-sik stated, "With this award, we will strive to establish the Seobyeon Forest Library as a cultural hub in the region. We will expand various programs so that all residents can easily enjoy books and culture in their daily lives."
