이강덕 포항시장 “철강 빠진 관세 협상은 산업 유기”… “피를 토하는 심정으로” 정부 비판

이 시장은 9일 자신의 페이스북에 ‘피를 토하는 심정으로’라는 제목의 글을 올리고 “정부가 미국과의 관세 협상에서 ‘철강’이라는 단어조차 꺼내지 못했다”며 “이건 협상이 아니라 산업의 포기이자 유기”라고 말했다.

그는 “AI, 반도체, 전기차 등 첨단산업이 미래를 이끈다고 하지만, 철강은 그 모든 산업의 토대이자 뼈대”라며 “철강의 이름이 협상 테이블에서 단 한 번도 언급되지 않았다는 사실에 소름이 돋는다”고 했다.

이 시장은 철강산업이 “내수 붕괴, 관세 장벽, 배출권 압박, 에너지 가격 폭등이라는 4중의 위기 속에 놓여 있다”며 “기업과 노동자들이 폭풍 속에서 간신히 버티고 있지만 정부는 여전히 책상 위 수치와 발표에만 몰두하고 있다”고 지적했다.

그는 특히 정부가 추진 중인 ‘K-스틸법’과 관련해 “체감할 수 있는 현장 지원은 보고서 속 숫자일 뿐”이라며 “정부가 산업을 포기할 권리는 없고, 산업을 지키고 보호하며 융성시킬 책임만 있다”고 강조했다.

이 시장은 “포항은 침묵하지 않겠다”며 “우리가 지키는 것은 하나의 산업이 아니라 대한민국 제조업의 심장이고, 시민과 노동자의 생존, 그리고 국가의 근본”이라고 했다. 이어 “지금 필요한 것은 말이 아니라 과감한 결단”이라며 “정부가 철강산업의 뿌리를 지켜야 한다. 그 책임과 행동은 반드시 기록될 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
