이날 행사에는 김장수 포항북부소방서장을 비롯해 소방·해양경찰·의료기관 관계자, 대학 구성원, 동문 및 재학생 등 200여 명이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.
1995년 전국 최초로 응급구조과를 설립한 선린대학교는 이번 학술제를 통해 지난 30년간의 응급의료 인재 양성 성과를 돌아보고, 미래 교육 방향을 모색하는 시간을 마련했다.
본 행사에 앞서 부산대병원 염석란 교수가 ‘외상센터에서 응급구조사의 역할’을 주제로 특강을 진행하며 학술제의 문을 열었다. 이어 응급구조과 학생과 교수진이 준비한 다양한 발표가 이어지며 현장성과 전문성을 갖춘 프로그램이 펼쳐졌다.
특히 비행기 추락사고를 가정한 다수사상자 대응 시나리오는 최신 미국 외상전문소생술(ATLS) 업데이트 내용을 반영해 높은 완성도를 보여줬다는 평가를 받았다. 1학년 학생들이 직접 시연을 맡고, 2학년 학생들과 현장 겸임교수가 케이스 고증과 시나리오 제작을 공동 진행해 교육적 효과를 높였다. 이 밖에도 ▲내과 응급 케이스 ▲외상 케이스 ▲포항지역 AED 운영·교육 실태 분석 등 실무 중심 연구 결과도 발표돼 “현장에서 곧바로 활용할 수 있는 내용”이라는 호평을 얻었다.
격려사에서 곽진환 총장은 “선린대학교 응급구조과는 30년 동안 우리나라 응급의료 발전에 중추적인 역할을 해왔다”며 “앞으로도 변화하는 응급의료 환경에 선제적으로 대응하는 교육기관으로 발전시키겠다”고 말했다.
현진숙 응급구조과 학과장(전국응급구조(학)과 교수협의회장)은 “1급 응급구조사의 역할이 확대되고 있는 시점에서 질적 교육혁신과 현장 중심 실습 강화를 통해 더 많은 생명을 살릴 인재를 양성하겠다”고 강조했다.
학술제에는 동문들도 대거 참석해 후배들에게 진로 조언과 실무 경험을 공유하는 시간을 가졌다. 이성철 동문은 “응급구조사는 환자의 마지막 순간을 책임지는 직업”이라며 “학교에서 배운 작은 기술 하나가 현장에서 생명을 살린다”고 전해 큰 공감을 이끌었다.
이날 행사에서는 30주년을 기념하는 영상이 상영되고, 학과 발전에 기여한 동문회장과 25년 이상 재직한 김순심 교수에게 감사패가 전달되며 의미를 더했다.
선린대학교 응급구조과는 앞으로 지정대학 제도에 따른 교육 고도화, 소방·해양경찰·의료기관 등 유관기관과의 실습 협력 확대, 동문 멘토링 강화 등을 통해 ‘국가대표 1급 응급구조사 양성 학과’로 도약하겠다는 계획을 밝혔다.

Professor Yeom Seok-ran of Pusan National University Hospital opened the event with a special lecture on "The Role of Emergency Medical Services in Trauma Centers." This was followed by various presentations prepared by students and faculty from the Department of Emergency Medical Services, providing a program that showcased practicality and expertise.
In particular, the multi-casualty response scenario, based on an airplane crash, was highly praised for its high level of completion, incorporating the latest updates to Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) in the United States. First-year students directly led the demonstration, while second-year students and an adjunct professor from the field collaborated on case research and scenario development, enhancing the educational impact. Furthermore, practical research findings were presented, including internal medical emergency cases, trauma cases, and an analysis of AED operation and training in the Pohang region, garnering rave reviews for their "immediately applicable content."
In his congratulatory remarks, President Kwak Jin-hwan stated, "The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Sunlin University has played a pivotal role in the advancement of emergency medicine in Korea for 30 years. Hyun Jin-sook, Department Head of the Department of Emergency Medical Services (and President of the National Emergency Medical Services Faculty Council), emphasized, "As the role of Level 1 paramedics is expanding, we will foster talent that can save more lives through qualitative educational innovation and strengthened field-centered training."
A large number of alumni attended the symposium, sharing career advice and practical experience with juniors. Alumnus Lee Seong-cheol resonated deeply with the audience, saying, "Emergency medical technicians are responsible for a patient's final moments," and, "Even the smallest skills learned in school can save lives in the field."
The event was further enriched by the presentation of a video commemorating the 30th anniversary, along with plaques of appreciation presented to the alumni association president for his contributions to the department's development and Professor Kim Soon-shim, who has served the department for over 25 years.
The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Sunlin University announced its plans to further develop its education through the designated university system, expand practical collaboration with related organizations such as the fire department, the Coast Guard, and medical institutions, and strengthen alumni mentoring. This will enable the department to become a "nationally recognized department for training Level 1 paramedics."
