충남 서산시가 제31회 시민대상 수상자로 이융조 한국선사문화연구원 이사장을 선정했다. 시는 20일 “이융조 씨가 지역문화 발전과 서산의 역사적 정체성 확립에 기여한 공로를 높이 평가해 애향 및 지역 선양 부문 수상자로 결정했다”고 밝혔다.
서산시 시민대상은 한 해 동안 지역사회 발전과 공동체에 공헌한 시민을 선정해 수여하는 시의 최고 영예의 상이다. 수상 부문은 교육·문화 및 체육진흥, 사회봉사, 산업 및 지역개발, 효행 및 선행, 애향 및 지역 선양 등 5개 분야로, 이 씨는 ‘애향 및 지역 선양’ 부문에서 선정됐다.
이융조 이사장은 국내 선사문화 연구의 권위자로서 오랜 기간 학문적 연구를 통해 고고학과 박물관학의 발전을 이끌어왔다. 특히 서산문화발전연구원 설립에 핵심적인 역할을 하며 초대 원장으로 재임, 서산의 문화정체성 보존과 지역학 연구 기반 구축에 크게 기여했다.
또한 지역의 역사와 문화를 체계적으로 정리한 학술자료집 ‘서산문화춘추’ 발간, 서산 관련 학술대회 개최 등 지속적인 연구 활동으로 서산문화의 위상을 전국적으로 확산시킨 점이 높이 평가됐다.
서산시는 오는 12월 10일 시청 대회의실에서 시상식을 열고 이 씨에게 시민대상 상패를 수여할 예정이다.
이완섭 서산시장은 “이융조 이사장은 학문적 성취뿐만 아니라 서산의 문화적 가치와 정체성 확립에 헌신한 분”이라며 “시민 모두가 자긍심을 느낄 수 있는 ‘해뜨는 서산’을 만들기 위해 시에서도 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.
