【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구 동구청이 지난 19일 구청 대회의실에서 '제8회 대구 동구 초등학교 영어 스피치 대회'를 열었다.
올해 대회는 ‘내가 존경하는 영웅’과 ‘내 인생 최고의 하루’를 주제로 진행됐다. 학생들은 자신만의 이야기를 영어로 풀어내며 무대를 빛냈다.
이번 대회에는 관내 21개 초등학교에서 5~6학년 학생 총 57명이 참가했다. 아이들은 영웅에 대한 존경, 가족과 함께한 소중한 추억, 꿈을 향한 노력 등 다양한 주제에 대해 영어로 발표하며 큰 박수를 받았다.
행사장 한편에는 참가 학교의 교표와 학생 이름이 담긴 포토존이 마련돼 분위기를 더했다. 특히 '케이팝 데몬 헌터스' 포토존은 학생과 학부모, 지도교사들의 발길을 붙잡으며 현장에 활기를 더했다.
대회 결과, 동대구초등학교 6학년 김나연, 김도은, 김민주, 김수은 학생 팀이 영예의 대상을 차지했다. 이 외에도 총 5개 팀이 수상의 기쁨을 누렸다.
윤석준 동구청장은 “학생들이 영어로 자신을 표현하며 성장하는 모습을 확인할 수 있어 매우 뜻깊었다”며 “앞으로도 원어민 화상영어, 체험학습 등 다양한 영어교육 프로그램을 연계해 아이들이 일상에서 자연스럽게 영어를 접할 수 있도록 기회를 넓혀가겠다”고 밝혔다.

On the 19th, the Daegu Dong-gu District Office held the "8th Daegu Dong-gu Elementary School English Speech Contest" in the district office conference room.
This year's contest featured the themes "The Hero I Admire" and "The Best Day of My Life." Students lit up the stage by telling their own stories in English.
A total of 57 students in grades 5 and 6 from 21 elementary schools in the district participated in this contest. The children received enthusiastic applause for their English presentations on a variety of topics, including admiration for heroes, precious memories with family, and striving to achieve their dreams.

As a result of the contest, the team of 6th grade students Kim Na-yeon, Kim Do-eun, Kim Min-ju, and Kim Su-eun from Dongdaegu Elementary School won the grand prize. A total of five other teams also received awards.
Mayor Yoon Seok-jun of Dong-gu said, “It was very meaningful to see students grow by expressing themselves in English,” and added, “We will continue to expand opportunities for children to naturally come into contact with English in their daily lives by linking various English education programs such as video English classes with native speakers and experiential learning.”
