재한몽골학교 학생들은 SRT 수서역을 방문해 철도 운영 시스템과 주요 시설을 견학한 뒤, 수도권매립지관리공사로 이동해 매립지와 온실을 둘러보며 친환경·자원순환 실천사례를 배우는 시간을 가졌다.
특히 이번 투어를 통해 학생들은 철도가 갖는 친환경 교통수단으로서의 역할을 이해하고, 폐기물 매립지에서 발생한 메탄가스를 활용해 지구온난화 영향을 줄이는 과정 등을 직접 확인하며 탄소중립의 중요성을 생생하게 체감했다.
한편, 수도권매립지관리공사는 2021년부터 몽골 나랑진(Naranjin) 매립지에서 매립가스 처리 사업을 추진해왔으며, 설계·시공·운영 전 과정을 직접 수행하고 있다.
내년 착공을 앞둔 이 사업은 향후 12년간 약 56만 7천 톤의 온실가스 감축이 예상된다.
