국립세종수목원이 초겨울 추위 속에서도 봄의 기운을 먼저 전한다. 한국수목원정원관리원은 22일부터 내년 3월 1일까지 지중해온실에서 제라늄 품종 전시회 ‘우린, 지금부터 봄’을 열고 국내외 다양한 제라늄을 선보인다.
이번 전시는 지난 2월 진행돼 관람객의 높은 관심을 모았던 기획전의 후속 행사로, 제라늄전문협회가 오랜 기간 수집·연구해 온 약 350개 품종을 공개한다. 남아프리카 원산의 제라늄은 화려한 색감과 비교적 손쉬운 관리로 베란다 정원과 실내 반려식물로 인기가 높은 종으로, 겨울철에도 12월부터 이듬해 3월까지 꽃을 피우는 특징이 있다.
전시장에서는 K-제라늄, 러시아제라늄, 유럽제라늄 등 일반적으로 접하기 어려운 품종들을 직접 관찰할 수 있으며, 품종 특성·관리 요령 등 실용적인 정보도 함께 제공된다. 더불어 22-23일 양일간 사계절전시온실에서 플리마켓이 열려 초보자용부터 희귀종까지 다양한 제라늄과 관련 용품을 구매할 수 있고, 현장에서 전문가 상담 프로그램도 운영된다.
신창호 국립세종수목원 원장은 제라늄이 혹한에도 꽃을 피우는 식물이라는 점을 강조하며, 이번 행사가 관람객들에 겨울 속에서도 따뜻한 여유를 느끼고 새해를 준비하는 시간을 마련해 줄 것이라고 설명했다.
