[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 김해시 구석구석을 누비며 환경 파수꾼 역할을 자처해 온 ‘녹색 수호대’ 200여 명이 한자리에 모였다. 지난 22일, 김해의 생태적 보물로 불리는 화포천습지 생태관 일대가 초록 물결로 뒤덮였다.
김해시는 (사)자연보호중앙연맹 김해시협의회(회장 조숙자) 주관으로 ‘제8회 김해시 자연보호 경진대회’가 개최됐다고 24일 밝혔다. 이번 행사는 기후 위기 시대에 지역 생태계를 지켜온 활동가들의 노고를 위로하고 새로운 30년을 다짐하는 자리로 마련됐다.
이날 행사는 김해시협의회가 올해로 출범 30주년(1995년 창립)을 맞는 동안 강산이 세 번 변하는 시간을 ‘행동’으로 김해의 자연을 지켜왔다.
협의회는 ‘우리동네 V-Day’는 매월 셋째 주 토요일마다 행정력이 미치기 힘든 청소 사각지대를 찾아가는 대표적인 봉사 프로그램이다. 이 밖에도 야생동물 구조, 1회용품 줄이기 캠페인(Zero-DAY), 산불 및 수해 복구 지원 등 지역 사회가 필요로 하는 곳에는 언제나 이들의 손길이 닿아 있었다.
이날 대회에는 홍태용 김해시장을 비롯해 지역 국회의원, 도·시의원 등 내빈들이 참석해 환경지킴이들에게 감사의 뜻을 전했다.
김해시는 투철한 봉사 정신으로 건강한 생활 환경 조성에 기여한 모범 환경지킴이 12명에게 김해시장 표창을 수여했다. 또한, 국회의원 표창(6명), 경남도의회 의장 표창(2명), 김해시의회 의장 표창(2명) 등 총 22명의 활동가가 그간의 공로를 인정받았다.
자연보호연맹 임영택 김해시협의회장은 “이번 대회를 계기로 자연보호 운동이 더욱 활성화되기를 바란다”고 강조했다.
